Leslie Iwerks

Leslie A. Iwerks ( born April 22, 1970 in Los Angeles ) is an American film director, film producer and screenwriter. It produces mainly documentaries. Your documentary short film Recycled Life was nominated in 2007 would an Oscar.

Life and work

Leslie Iwerks is a subsidiary of the Disney - manager Don Iwerks and granddaughter of cartoon cartoonist Ub Iwerks, who created in collaboration with Walt Disney Mickey Mouse. She attended the USC School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles, where she graduated with a Bachelor in 1993.

After studying Iwerks worked as an assistant director. She assisted Steven Brill Mighty Ducks II - The Super Team Returns ( 1994), Tom Shadyac in the production of The Nutty Professor (1996) and Liar Liar (1997) and Michael Cristofer in the television film Gia - The Price of Beauty (1998).

1999 Iwerks created a biographical Disney documentary about her grandfather: The Hand Behind the Mouse: The Ub Iwerks Story, for which she wrote the screenplay, directed and took over the role of producer.

In 2002 she founded her own film production company, Leslie Iwerks Productions, Inc. in Cambria, California. It derives from the company of Santa Monica and produced with a staff of two documentaries, television specials and digital content for companies such as Disney, Pixar, and National Geographic.

Even with the published 2006 documentary short film Recycled Life played Iwerks all essential functions, they also did the camera work. The screenplay she wrote with photographer and film producer Mike Glad, who was also involved in the production of the film. For her film, which portrays on the landfill of Guatemala City living people, they were awarded a 2007 Oscar nomination.

2007 turned Iwerks also the documentary The Pixar Story, in which the history of Pixar Animation Studios will be shown. The film was nominated for an Emmy Award, among others, in the category Outstanding Nonfiction Special.

In the following years she produced another successful documentaries. In 2008 came her short film Downstream, which takes up the problem of unusual cancers in the vicinity of the Athabasca oil sands, shortlisted for an Oscar. The same she succeeded in 2011 with the short documentary Pipe Dreams, which deals with landowners on the Keystone pipeline.
