Lesotho Workers' Party

The Lesotho Workers ' Party ( LWP; German as: " Workers' Party of Lesotho ") is a party in Lesotho. It was in 2007 's fourth largest party in the parliamentary elections.

History

The LWP was founded in 2001 by Billy Macaefa, the then Secretary General of the Lesotho Clothing and Allied Workers Union ( LECAWU ), German as: " Lesotho Trade Union of Textile Workers and allied workers."

A modified system of proportional representation was introduced after the 1998 elections, so that the LWP in the 2002 elections, one of the 120 seats won, thanks to 7,788 votes, which corresponded to 1.4 percent of all votes.

At the 2007 elections the LWP received 107 463 second votes mainly by supporters of the All Basotho Convention allied (ABC), which earned her the 10 40 by proportional representation seats to be filled, while ABC MPs competed only as direct candidates. The Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD), which won 62 of the 80 constituencies, but was able to govern alone.

In the 2012 elections the LWP received only 2,408 votes, and thus 0.4 percent. She received a seat on proportional representation and support since the coalition government under the leadership of the ABC.

Structure and policy

Chairman and Member of Parliament is Macaefa Billy (as of 2013).

The LWP primarily represents the interests of workers in the textile industry since its inception.
