Lesser occipital nerve

The lesser occipital nerve ( " small occipital nerve" ) is a nerve plexus of the neck ( cervical plexus ). Like the other nerves of this network it has its origin in the first spinal nerves of the neck. In humans, it runs along the posterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle to the occipital region and innervates these sensitive. In the domestic animals, this nerve does not occur.

Electrical stimulation of the occipital nerve, major and minor ( Occipital nerve stimulation ) is a method for treatment of chronic migraine.
