Lesser Slave River

The Lesser Slave River ( Cree: Iyaghchi Eennu Sepe translated: "River of foreign people" ) is a river in central Alberta, Canada. He is one of the main tributaries of the Athabasca River.

The Little Slave Lake and Lesser Slave River were up to the beginning of the 20th century, the main connection and transportation to the Peace River District. This changed with the completion of the railway line of the Northern Alberta Railways.

Course

The river has its source in the Small Slave Lake. The average discharge at the outflow from the lake is 40 m³ / s The Lesser Slave River flows 61 km to the east before it opens from the left side near the village of Smith in the Athabasca River. Measured from the source of the South Heart River, the total length of over 280 km.
