Leszczyński Residence

The Prażmowski Palace ( also called Leszczynski, Rautenstrauch, Dobrycz or Pastorius palace or tenement; Polish: Pałac or Kamienica Prażmowskich, Leszczyńskich, Rautenstrauchów, Dobrycza or Joachima Pastoriusa ) is a day late Baroque city palace from the 17th century, which is located at the start of the historic Royal Route in Warsaw downtown district. The object is thus at the Warsaw Castle Square and has the address Ulica Krakowskie Przedmieście 87 The rear wing is located on Ulica Senatorska.

History

In the mid-17th century, the land belonged to the Warsaw Chamber, K. Walter. From 1660 to 1667 a three-story building has been here for the court physician of King John II Casimir, Joachim Pastorius, built in Baroque style. This building had to Krakowskie Przedmieście four window bays. Shortly thereafter, Mikołaj Prażmowski acquired the object.

Conversion under the Leszczyńskis

Middle of the 18th century took over the magnate family Leszczynski the residence. Among them Giacomo Fontana built about 1754 to 1770 the building completely to. It was raised by one floor, the front façade was given a fifth window axis and has now designed in a late Baroque style with rococo elements. Probably in the reconstruction phase was also lying on the Senatorska rear wing, which in any case in 1795 a new facade decoration ( also in the rococo style ) received.

World War II and the postwar period

The building was partially destroyed during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. Remaining residues were removed immediately after the war, as under the building of the tunnels of the newly trassierten east-west connection Trasa WZ was built. In the years 1948 and 1949 the house was rebuilt by its appearance from the late eighteenth century on the basis of a design by Zygmunt Stępiński on the tunnel ceiling. The ensemble currently consists of the main house to Krakowskie Przedmieście, a wing along the adjacent John - house and a rear wing along Ulica Senatorska. The facade to Krakowskie Przedmieście is late baroque, designed the façade provided with seven window bays to Senatorska Classical. Inside, the ensemble with the John House was connected.
