Reception

"The record is an excellent genre pearl. [ ... ] Laurie takes loving and passionate at the cradle of the blues in New Orleans. [ ... ] Conscientiously and in the best sense of old-fashioned authentic he celebrates with Canadian musician pals a sound that even the verkniffensten Empire General worriers from the Quengelecke even appointee Mucke police compels respect, so that has not Van Gogh's ear for music. "

" Right off the bat sympathetic is the emphasis, enters with the Laurie for these songs. He seems to really love and has penetrated deeply into the matter in the course of many years of employment with this music. This is also the really tasteful song selection of the songs [ ... ]. When you consider how far he would have to be, thanks to his background and his status as a Hollywood star of these songs, it is remarkable how convincing he brings over. However, his clever producers choice he benefits. Joe Henry has produced great albums by Allen Toussaint and Aaron Neville, and to be regarded as an expert in music from New Orleans. With the fact that Laurie is not a musical professional, he comes to intelligent manner: Along with studio cracks like Jay Bellerose and Greg Leisz he clamped a safety net under Laurie, which effectively sets whose singing and piano playing in the scene. The musicians play more cautious so as not to put Laurie in the shadows, but effective enough to bring the album musically sparkle. "

On the notorious question of why he had now dedicated as an actor also of music, responds Hugh Laurie: "I've broken important to rule of art, music, and career paths: actors are Supposed to act, and musicians are Supposed to music. That's how it works. You do not buy fish from a dentist, or ask a plumber for financial advice, so why listen to an actor 's music? The answer is - there is no answer. If you care about pedigree then you should try elsewhere, because i have nothing in your size. "
