Letov Å -8

The aircraft Letov Š -8 is a single-seat single-engine monoplane, which was developed as a racing aircraft. The first flight of the machine took place in 1922. The design resulted from Alois Smolik.

The machine drew from a good aerodynamic design. A newly executed ring radiator with the characteristic for this model round cowling around the engine did not show the expected effectiveness and was initially supplemented by two additional cooler to the strut brace. Soon, however, found a way to re- design the ring cooler, and the additional cooler disappeared. The pattern showed a very good performance for its time. It has therefore been used in several air races in the years 1923 to 1926, but remained here ultimately unsuccessful.

The wings were supported by I- long stems, which began on chassis and ending approximately at 2/3 of the wing length.
