Letters of the Living

Letters of the Living (Arabic حروف الحي ) was a title which gave the Bab to the first Babis. The Bab gave this title to 18 Babis and is counted in some lists himself as the 19th letter of the living. All Letters of the Living were from May 1844, when the Bab declared his mission publicly, and October 1844, when the Bab returned from his pilgrimage from Mecca, appointed. Other Babis as Baha'u'llah or Subh -i Azal, who confessed to Babism later were no longer appointed to the Letters of the Living. Most of the Letters of the Living died before the declaration of Baha'u'llah and the beginning of the Baha'i religion.
