Leuggelbach

Leuggelbach is a village that belongs to the political community formerly Haslen and since 1 January 2011 Glarus Süd in canton Glarus in Switzerland. Leuggelbach was until 1 July 2006, an independent municipality.

Geography

The municipality has developed mainly along the main road, on the left side of the Glarus Grosstals between Luchsingen and Nidfurn. The Leuggelbach flows from Leuggelstock Coming over a waterfall on the bottom. There, a bog is created in Gütli, the only one in the valley of the Glarus Region. From the municipality is 39.4 % is agricultural land, 50.9 % is forest, 4.6 % and 5.1 % is built-up area is unproductive.

The SP has 65.1 % of the votes, 38.5 % of the votes going to other parties.

History

Leuggelbach was first mentioned in 1359 as Löckelbach documented.

Until 1772 Leuggelbach was kirchgenössig to Schwanden, later partly by Luchsingen.

Only by the treaty of partition of 1868 Leuggelbach was an independent municipality.

From the mid 19th century there were in Leuggelbach an economic boom, as Daniel Jenny Oertli on Leuggelbach einrichtete a weaving mill. 1864 took over the company Molliser Gallatin & Cie. the area and built a printing factory. Since 1933, their properties are home to a paint and lacquer factory.

On 1 July 2006 the merger of the municipalities Haslen, Leuggelbach and Nidfurn was announced. The name of the new community is Haslen.
