Lev Gudkov

Lev Dmitrievich Gudkov (Russian Лев Дмитриевич Гудков; born December 6, 1946 in Moscow ) is a Russian sociologist. Since 2006 he is the director of the Russian pollster Levada Center and chief editor whose publication " The Messenger of social opinion."

Biography

In 1971 he received his doctorate from Moscow State University as a doctor of philosophical sciences. 1970 to 1973 he worked at the Department of Research methodology in social processes in the Institute of the concrete social research in the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He was then to 1977 employees of the department of philosophy and sociology at the Institute of Scientific Information of the social sciences at the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. From 1977 to 1984 Gudkov was a research associate of the Department of the Sociology of books and reading in the Russian State Library. Subsequently, he served until 1986 as a research associate of the Department of Sociology of the design at the Institute of Technical Aesthetics. From 1986 to 1988 Gudkov was a research associate of the open book chamber and 1988-1991 senior research associate of the Old Russian Centre of the study of public opinion.

Gudkov 1991 became head of the theory department (later " Department of Social Political Research " ) in VTsIOM. He left this in 2003 with Yuri Levada. He then went to the same activity in the analytical Levada Center. After the death Lewadas he became the head of the center.

Currently Gudkov is chief editor of the magazine " messenger of the social opinion " (until 2006 representative ), and teaches sociology at the Moscow School of the Social Sciences and Economics. Gudkov took part in all the major projects of the Levada Center ( Soviet man ( 1989-2003 ), Bureaucracy, Russian nationalism, the results of the year: The Company from 1989 to 2003 and others).
