Lev Kreft

Lev Kreft ( born September 15, 1951 in Ljubljana, Yugoslavia, now Slovenia) is a Slovenian philosopher and politician.

Life

Lev Kreft studied philosophy and sociology at the University of Ljubljana. Themes of his diploma and master's work were Walter Benjamin and Herbert Marcuse.

He teaches since 1982, first as a lecturer, Philosophy at the University of Ljubljana, next time as well as at other universities in Ljubljana. Since 2001 he is full professor. He mainly deals with questions of aesthetics as well as the arts and cultural philosophy. In the years 1999-2004 he was chairman of the Slovenian Society for Aesthetics.

From 1978 to 1979 Lev Kreft was president of the Socialist youth organization Yugoslavia. He was from 1989, member of the first independent Party of Yugoslavia, the Udruženje za Jugoslovensku demokratsku inicijativu. After Slovenia's independence, he was the ZLSD 1992-1996 Member of the Slovenian Parliament; in the presidential election in 2002, he received 2.2 % of votes.

From 2000 to 2004 he was chairman, and since then he has been CEO of Mirovni institute ( Peace Institute).
