Leval (Nord)

Leval is a commune with 2379 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Nord, in the Nord -Pas -de -Calais. It belongs administratively to the Arrondissement of Avesnes -sur- helpe and Canton Berlaimont.

Geography

The municipality is situated approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Valenciennes in the Regional Natural Park Avesnois. Neighboring municipalities are:

  • Aulnoye- Aymeries in the north,
  • Monceau -Saint- Waast in the east,
  • Dompierre -sur- helpe in the south,
  • Noyelles -sur -Sambre in the southwest,
  • Sassegnies in the west and
  • Berlaimont in the northwest.

On the western boundary of the municipality of the channelized river Sambre, the municipal seat is crossed by its tributary Tarsy runs. The northern places in the municipality Cité des Forges and Le Petit Maubeuge are merged with the neighboring community Aulnoye- Aymeries.

Transport links

Leval is located off of supra-regional road links. The regional road traffic is handled by the department of roads D951 and D959 and some other local roads connecting Leval with its neighboring communities. The municipality is crossed by a railway line that runs from Avesnes- sur- Helpe after Aulnoye- Aymeries and has a stop at Leval. The channelized for IWT river Sambre is exploited mainly for freight, in the municipality itself but there is no such infrastructure.

Attractions

The church of Saint - Saulve characterizes the central village. Opposite there is a park with bandstand and a war memorial.

Of particular interest is the Tour Florentine, a tower as a railroad depot from the first half of the 20th century - Monument historique.
