Levator scapulae muscle

The levator scapulae (Latin for " shoulder blade lifter " ) is part of the secondary (ie not autochthonous ) back muscles.

It originates at the transverse processes ( transverse processes ) of the first and second cervical vertebra, and the posterior tubercles of the third and fourth cervical vertebra. Set at the medial edge ( medial border ) and upper shoulder blade angle ( superior angle of the scapula ) of the shoulder blade to. Is the accessory nerve at its lateral edge.

The muscle is innervated by cervical nerves of the cervical plexus and the dorsal scapular nerve and supplied by the dorsal scapular artery.

In the lateral triangle of the neck ( cervical regions lateralis) muscle during contraction emerges under the skin at the medial border of the trapezius muscle. On the front surface of the neck muscle connection has to Skalenusmuskulatur with which it can be grown.
