Lewis Beach

Lewis Beach ( born March 30, 1835 in New York City; † August 10, 1886 in Cornwall, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1881 and 1886 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Lewis Beach graduated in 1856 from Yale Law School. His admission to the bar he was in the same year and commenced practice in New York. In 1861 he was living in Orange County. He was 1877-1879 member and treasurer ( treasurer ) of the Democratic State Central Committee. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1880 for the 47th Congress Beach was in the 14th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John W. Ferdon on March 4, 1881. He was re-elected twice in a row, but died during his last term of office on August 10, 1886 in his home " Knoll View" in Cornwall. As a Congressman he had presided over the Committee on Expenditures on Public Buildings ( 49th Congress ). His body was interred in Green-Wood Cemetery in the then still independent city of Brooklyn.
