Lewis County (Tennessee)

Lewis County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hohenwald.

Geography

The County is located southwest of the geographic center of Tennessee and has an area of ​​732 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hickman County, Maury County, Lawrence County, Wayne County and Perry County.

History

Lewis County was formed on December 21, 1843 from parts of Hickman County, Lawrence County, Maury County and Wayne County. It was named after Meriwether Lewis, an American explorer, soldier, and administration officials. He was instrumental in the planning and execution of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
