Lewis D. Apsley

Lewis Dewart Apsley ( born September 29, 1852 in Northumberland, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, † April 11, 1925 in Colón, Panama ) was an American politician. Between 1893 and 1897 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1861, Lewis moved with his parents to Apsley Lock Haven, where he attended both public and private schools. Later he moved to Philadelphia and began his career in trade with rubber goods there. Since 1877 he lived in Massachusetts, where he established in Hudson rubber clothing from the year 1885. In the following years he was president of several companies involved in this industry companies. He also headed the Trade Committee of the city of Hudson and was a director of the Hudson National Bank. Politically, he joined the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1892 Apsley was the fourth electoral district of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Joseph H. O'Neil on March 4, 1893. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1897 two legislative sessions. Since 1895 he was Chairman of the Committee craft. In 1896, Apsley renounced a new Congress candidacy.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he took his previous jobs in Hudson again. He was twice vice-chairman of the Republican National Congressional Committee. Lewis Apsley died on 11 April 1925 in Panama and was buried in Hudson.
