Lewis David de Schweinitz

Lewis David von Schweinitz (also Ludwig David von Schweinitz and Schweiniz, born February 13, 1780 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA, † February 8, 1834 ibid ) was on the board of the Moravian Brethren in North America and mycologist and botanist. His botanical and mycological author abbreviation is " pig. ".

Because of its extensive mycological works, he is considered the founder of modern mycology in North America.

Life

Schweinitz was born the great-grandson of the founder of the Moravian Church, Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf and Pott village in the Moravian settlement of Bethlehem (Pennsylvania). 1798 in Germany was the visit of the Theological Seminary in Niesky, Upper Lusatia. In 1801 he was a teacher there at the Unitäts - boys institution. 1807 von Schweinitz worked as a nurse in the single brethren Gnadenberg (Silesia ). In 1808 he was Head of the single brethren choir in Gnadau.

1812 in America, he was administrator of the Unitätsbesitzungen in North America in Salem, now Winston- Salem, North Carolina. In 1821 he served as inspector of a pension Girls Institute in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, works. He died there in the service of the Moravian Church in 1834.
