Lewistown is a small town and county seat of Fulton County in the center of the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2000, Lewistown had 2522 inhabitants.

The city and its surroundings inspired Edgar Lee Masters, who grew up in Lewistown, to his work Spoon River Anthology.

Around 8 km southeast of the city is located in the Dickson Mounds State Park a historic Indian burial ground.

Geography

Lewistown is located at 40 ° 23'47 " north latitude and 90 ° 09'17 " west longitude. The city stretches over 4.7 km ², which consist exclusively of land area.
