Lexicon technicum

The Lexicon technicum is an encyclopedia of John Harris ( 1666-1719 ).

The mathematician John Harris published in 1704 in London the Lexicon technicum: or, to universal english dictionary of arts and sciences. The Lexicon technicum considered the first general encyclopedia, which put an emphasis on the art and science and is the first alphabetic encyclopedia in the English language. 1736 published in London in the fifth edition in two volumes.

The Lexicon technicum was also a model for Ephraim Chambers' Cyclopaedia, and is appreciated by Denis Diderot as one of the sources for the Encyclopédie.
