Leya is a Portuguese publishing holding company. The name is onomatopoeic to read the Portuguese call ( Portuguese: Leia, dt: Read ).

The Company

The publishing group was founded in 2008 as a merger of several publishers. Through acquisitions, the group expanded further. Meanwhile Leya assembled in Portugal 17 publishers from all divisions among themselves, including, inter alia, the major textbook publishers ASA, which is also a major comic publisher in Portugal has been since 2002, or even the renowned literary and poetry publishers Caminho, Dom Quixote and Teorema.

In addition, Leya is represented by its own, the same publishers in Mozambique, Angola, and especially in Brazil.

Leya and Porto Editora are the largest publishing houses in Portugal. Occasionally Leya is called as a leader, but Porto Editora has mostly the slightly higher figures. The two companies will together cover about 47 % of the Portuguese market.

The Leya - book pricing

The Leya Book Award Prémio Leya de Romance (German: Leya Novel Prize ) is awarded by the Leya Group since 2008. He is with 100,000 euros the most valuable book price for Portugal an unpublished novel. The Prémio Camões is the most prestigious award of the Lusophone countries and also endowed with 100,000 euros, but is distinguished from the complete works of an artist, and not just a single plant.
