Leyland Lynx

The Leyland Lynx is an omnibus of the UK commercial vehicle manufacturer Leyland Motors. The model was built from 1984 to 1992. He should replace the built since 1972 Leyland National.

The motor of the bus is located at the rear, however, the cooler is located at the front, in order to achieve better cooling. For the bus several six-cylinder diesel engines from Leyland, Gardner, Cummins and Volvo were available. Were used Leyland Hydracyclic gearbox or automatic transmission from ZF.

All Lynx were built as a city bus. The structure of the bus was mostly manufactured by Leyland himself, only seven Lynx for Ulsterbus and Citybus got a build-up of Alexander. The bodies of Leyland differed in equipment and seating capacity for each operator. The buses for export were shipped normally as a chassis with engine and applied on-site structures, so a bus for the Singapore Bus Service received a PS structure of Alexander, two buses for Sydney got a Metro 90 Construction of the Pressed Metal Corporation. Depending on the configuration, the capacity was about 53 seats. The built 1990-1992 series Mk II is to be distinguished from its predecessor on the stressed grille.

A total of over 1,000 buses were produced. After the takeover of Leyland by Volvo production of the Lynx was discontinued.
