Leyton tube station

Leyton is an aboveground station London Underground in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 3 at the Leyton High Street and is served by the Central Line. In 2011, 13.29 million passengers used the station.

The opening of the station took place on August 22, 1856 under the name Low Leyton by the Eastern Counties Railway ( ECR), as part of the newly built route from Stratford to Loughton, which was nine years later extended to Ongar. The successor company of the ECR, the Great Eastern Railway, changed its name on 27 November 1868 in Leyton. The present station buildings emerged in 1879, when the complex was completely rebuilt. Among other things, replaced the same level transition by a footbridge. From 1923 Leyton belonged to the London and North Eastern Railway. After some structural adjustments the route on which the station is located, on May 5, 1947, for the first time traveled by trains on the Central Line.

In the 1990s, along the railway line was built the multilane highway A12. The northern starting with the 1901 -built house had to switch it soft this construction project.
