Homosexuality is publicly discussed increasingly in Panama and LGBT rights are recognized.
Legality
Since 2008, homosexual acts are legal in Panama. The age of consent is uniformly set at 18 years. Legislation that protects gay men or transgender people from discrimination in public or in the workplace, is currently to Parliament in Panama
Recognition of same-sex couples
There is no recognition of same-sex marriages or civil unions are allowed.
Social situation
A LGBT community is found only in a small scale in the capital Panama City. The organization Asociación de Hombres y Mujeres Nuevos de Panamá ( AHMNP ) advocates for the rights of LGBT people in the country. In 2005, the first demonstration for the rights of homosexual people was held in the capital.
