LGV Picardie

The LGV Picardie is a being planned French high-speed line between Paris and Calais via Amiens.

When the LGV Nord was planned, the inhabitants of the city of Amiens, fought in the Picardie region that the route should pass over Amiens. The SNCF decided that the new high-speed line should run on the longer route via Lille, which allows the use of the section between Paris and Lille also for the movement of trains from Paris to Brussels. The SNCF approved for the construction of the station TGV Haute -Picardie, near the town of Peronne. This, however, it felt the critics, was a station on the green grass of no great significance, since the larger cities in the region, Amiens and St. Quentin no direct connection to the station had.

The LGV Picardie should also start at the Gare du Nord, but shortly thereafter proceed towards the west of the Altstrecke. East of Calais - Fréthun station should then thread back into the existing line. 20 minutes would be saved on the route between Paris and Calais and London, so it would be possible to travel the connection from Paris to London in less than 2 hours. Another advantage would be the discharge of the LGV Nord.

The French government has announced its plans for future investment by the year 2020. These investments are currently no funds for LGV Picardie available. However, the route to be, probably built in the longer term after 2020. The cost is expected to reach nearly 4 billion euros.
