Li Gun-mo

Ri Kun -mo ( born April 5, 1926 in the province P'yŏngan - namdo ) is a North Korean politician.

Ri Kun -mo studied at the Kim Il-sung University in Pyongyang and the Institute of Engineering Sciences in Leningrad ( Soviet Union). From 1958 he was with the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea ( WPK ) operates. In 1964 he became head of the department of mechanical engineering at the Central Committee and in 1968 Minister for engineering industries. In 1969 he moved to the Department of the Central Committee of Heavy Industry. In the early 1980s, he held a number of senior positions in the party and government. He was, among other things, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers. From 1986 to 1988 he was Chairman of the Council of Ministers (Prime Minister) of North Korea. Because of the poor economic development of the country in the late 1980s he had to give up this office and became First Secretary of the Party of Labour of Korea in the province Hamgyŏng - pukto in the northeast of the country. From 1998 to 2003 he was a deputy of the Supreme People's Assembly.

Ri Kun -mo is considered as an economist. While he held leading positions in the country in the 1980s, it is now no longer considered part of the innermost center of power to leader Kim Jong- il.
