Li Zhaoxing

Li Zhaoxing (Chinese李肇星, Pinyin lǐ Zhaoxing; * October 1940 in the province of Shandong) is a Chinese politician and diplomat.

Life

Li Zhaoxing studied at Peking University and received his university degree in 1964. Later he became a diplomat in Africa, including in Kenya and Lesotho. From 1990 he worked in various positions in the Chinese Foreign Ministry. From 1995 to 1998, and from 2001 to 2003 he was Deputy Foreign Minister of China. Between these two terms he represented the People's Republic of China as ambassador to the United States of America.

On 17 March 2003, he took over the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China from its predecessor Tang Jiaxuan. The appointment took place at the Great Hall of the People at the 7th plenary meeting of the first session of the 10th National People 's Congress (NPC ). On 27 April 2007 he handed the office of Yang Jiechi.

Li Zhaoxing is married and has a son.
