Lia Vissi

Lia Vissi, civil Olympic Vissi in Greek Λία Βίσση, ( born December 20, 1955 in Larnaca ( Cyprus) ) is a Cypriot singer and politician. She is the elder sister of Anna Vissi, which is a known singer herself.

Biography

Together with her sisters Anna and Nicki founded Lia Vissi the folk band "The Vissi Sisters " ("The Vissi Sisters" ). After Anna won a talent competition, the family moved in 1973 to Greece.

Lia Vissi graduated from the Hellenic Conservatory in Athens and is issued, then years piano lessons. She is an accomplished composer, singer and producer who has released several boards and has given numerous concerts in Greece and abroad. On her solo concert program is packed except self-composed songs and jazz standards songs by Bertolt Brecht, Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler, Pablo Neruda, Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Handjidakis, Thanos Mikroutsikos Savvas Savva and. In addition, she writes music for TV shows and plays. She also teaches modern singing.

In 2006, she participated as a representative of the party Dimokratikos Synagermos part in the district of Larnaca in the parliamentary elections, but was not elected, despite a promotional campaign of her sister Anna.

Participation in the Euro Vision Song Contest

In 1979, Lia Vissi for the first time with the Euro Vision Song Contest in touch: As a background singer of Elpida. A year later, she was a member of the group The Epikouri, who accompanied her sister Anna, and as in 1979 already Elpida Greece took the Euro Vision Song Contest.

For Cyprus their home, she went the Euro Vision Song Contest 1985 in Gothenburg at the start. But she had no luck: only 16th place (with 19 starters) for their song To katalava arga ( gr Το κατάλαβα αργά to German as "I've noticed too late "). She had written the song itself.

1991 and 1992, respectively, she came in second place in the Greek preliminary decision to Euro Vision Song Contest.
