Libération

The Libération ( " Libé ") is a left-liberal French newspaper. Founded in 1973 and published in Paris, the Libération applies to Le Monde and Le Figaro as one of the major national newspapers in France.

The Liberation was founded in the spring of 1973 as a mouthpiece of the French 68 movement and the New Left. Early employees were, among others, Michel Foucault and the newspaper founder, Jean -Paul Sartre. Over the years, the tide was moving from the left side of the political spectrum in a left-liberal position, with the attitude of taz or the Frankfurter Rundschau is most comparable to the German press.

The union Societé civile of personnels de Libération ( SCPL ) was for many years with 39.4 percent majority shareholder of the sheet. They decreased from financial problems in early 2005 their share to 20 percent. The British fund company " 3i " had declared in November 2004 to withdraw from their fifth participation.

Édouard de Rothschild, owner of a horse- racing team, took over the capital shares amounting to 37 percent and thus became the main shareholder of the sheet. He says so far that he would not interfere in the content line of the newspaper and thus respect the independence of the ailing newspaper. The goal is to create their own media group that could stand up to his goal.

According to research by the taz the support continuously decreased between 2000 and 2004 from 161,000 to 139,000 copies sold last. That meant only for the year 2004 a decline in circulation of almost eight percent. In 2010, the edition finally just stood at 118,000.

In mid-September 2006, Libération turned with a haunting text to its shareholders and readers; she described her desolate financial situation and asked for any kind of ideas to assist. The text ends with a personal appeal: " Avec vous, Libération vivra. Sans vous, il n'a plus de raison d' être ni de chaque jour paraître. " ( With you is the " Libération " live. Without you, it has no reason to exist, yet to appear every day. )

The word Libération in France is linked to the historical process of liberation from occupation by Nazi Germany (1944 /45). In 1941, the Resistance group Libération an underground newspaper of that name issued in Lyon with Emmanuel d' Astier and others ' to their attitude appeared in 1964 legally with the liberation of Paris.
