Libero Grassi

Libero Grassi ( born July 19, 1924 in Catania, † August 29, 1991 in Palermo ) was an Italian clothing business and mafia enemy who was murdered by Cosa Nostra.

Life

Grassi, the company was a fashion home textiles with about 100 employees in the region, openly opposed the mafia and refused media coverage to pay protection money ( pizzo ). He worked with the police and mafia hunters and publicly demanded a solidarity. Libero Grassi informed the authorities and the media just about the procedure of protection money blackmailer. Because of his testimony 8 Mafiosi were arrested and convicted. Since he was the first Sicilian entrepreneur who openly opposed the Mafia, and due to the wide coverage Libero Grassi is honored to this day by many Italians for his courage and honesty.

Beginning of 1991 was broken into Grassi business and exactly stolen the amount of money you had in vain demanded as protection money from him. An unsuccessful arson attack on his business soon followed.

On August 29, 1991, less than a year after his refusal to pay protection money, and just three weeks after his open letter was published on the "Love blackmailer " on the front page of a daily newspaper, the 67 -year-old Grassi was in the Via murdered Vittorio Alfieri in Palermo at 7.30 clock from the mafia boss Francesco Madonia and his son Salvino Madonia out of a car by three head shots as he walked from his house to his car.

Grassi was married to Pina Grassi and had a son and a daughter Alice Davide.
