The Puente Libertador General San Martín is an international toll road bridge in South America.

Takes you over the Uruguay River and connects Puerto Unzué near the Argentine city of Gualeguaychú with the Uruguayan town of Fray Bentos. The bridge is 45 meters high and with the inclusion of the access roads 5366 feet long ( 3408 meters without the access roads ), of which 4220 m are on the Argentinian side and 1146 m on Uruguayan territory. The main bridge has three openings with spans of 145 meters each at the side panels, and 220 meters in the middle field and was prepared as a prestressed concrete beam with a haunched box girder cross-section cantilever.

The plans for the project of building bridges already started on 23 November 1960, when the Comisión Técnica Mixta del Binational Commission Puente entre la Argentina y el Uruguay ( COMPAU ) was founded. By this ultimately the choice of today's location has been set for the bridge construction. This has been fixed on 30 May 1967 under an agreement between the two States, Argentina and Uruguay, which was initially signed in Buenos Aires, then ratified on 17 October 1967 in Montevideo. In 1972, then started the construction by the Consorcio Puente Internacional ( COPUI ) after the relevant contract was signed on 23 August 1972. Was funded in part by the construction loans of the Banco de Desarrollo Interamericano (BID). The cost was initially estimated at 21.7 million U.S. dollars and later revised upwards. On September 16 In 1976 the inauguration of the building took place.

The name of the bridge is due to the independence fighter José de San Martín.
