Libkov (Domažlice District)

Libkov ( German Lipkau ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located eleven kilometers west of Klatovy and Okres Domažlice.

Geography

Libkov located in the Neugedeiner furrow between the Upper Palatinate and the Bohemian Forest. The village lies between the hills Cerna skala ( 731 m), Svatá Marketa ( 642 m) and Libkov ( 599 m) in the headwaters of the Polenka. By Libkov State Road 22 between Klatovy and Domažlice, and west of the town runs the rail link between the aforementioned cities, in which is the nearest subway stops in Loučim.

Neighboring towns are Úsilov in the north, Slavíkovice, Nevděk and Nová Víska in the northeast, Dlažov in the east, and Miletice Běhařov the southeast, Pocinovice in the south, and Výrov Chodská Lhota in the southwest, Loučim in the west and Modlin in the northwest.

History

Libkov was first documented in 1379. The village was at that time the seat of the Vladiken Přibyslav. After his death his widow sold the property to adjacent Vladiken. During the Bohemian- Bavarian border war Libkov was burnt down.

On the grounds of the deserted village later was a Freihofstraße, which spawned a noble residence. Around it, a new village was founded.
