Libon (architect)

Libon of Elis (Greek Λίβων Ἠλεῖος ) was an ancient Greek architect from Elis. He worked as an architect at the Olympia in the first half of the 5th century BC.

Libon is especially true as the architect of the Temple of Zeus at Olympia, built between 470 and about 456 BC. His name is known only from a passage in Pausanias (5, 10, 3 ): ". Architect ( Temple of Zeus ) is a man from the area named Libon " An exact chronology of the personality of Libon and his work has been only very speculative possible.
