Librazhd District

The circle Librazhd (Albanian: Rrethi i Librazhdit ) is one of the 36 administrative districts of Albania. It is named after the provincial capital Librazhd. He belongs to the Qark Elbasan. The county has 56,798 inhabitants ( 2011) and an area of ​​1102 km ².

The circle Librazhd lies to the east of the country on the border with Macedonia. The area includes the headwaters of the river Shkumbin with its side valleys, but without its headwaters. The close Shkumbin valley is surrounded by high mountains: in the west the polis Mountains (Mali i Polisit ), emerges at the north end of the Shkumbin through a narrow gorge in the coastal plain. In the east the Jablanica reaches heights of over 2200 m. Large parts of this remote mountain range is protected as a national park Shebenik - Jablanica since 2008. The pass Qafë Thana (937 m) is also the easternmost point of the circle, transition into the basin of Lake Ohrid and border station to Macedonia.

Defined by high mountains area north of Librazhd is called Çermenika. It is drained by the river Rapun which opens at Librazhd in the Shkumbin. The secluded Çermenika is known for great forests. The Shkumbin valley was an important route from time immemorial.
