Liceida

Didymium cancellatum

The Liceida are one of the five orders in the group of Myxogastria, it comprises about 90 species, some of which are distributed worldwide.

Characteristics and ecology

The fruiting bodies are always built simple features other orders like a real scalp, a columella or Kalkknötchen missing, only in the genera Kelleromyxa and Ella Lister threads to be found in the scalp. Some types (eg Enteridium spp. ) Have a Pseudocapillitium. Most species have bright colorful to dirty olive-colored spore masses.

System

The Liceida were first described in 1928 by Edward Jahn, they comprise ten genera in three families. Molecular Genetics Studies have shown that the order is the sister taxon of Trichiida. However, the monophyly of the order has not yet been clearly demonstrated.
