Lichenification

The term lichenification (lichen = Greek for " braid " ) describes a two-dimensional thickening of the skin with an enlarged field drawing that is counted among the secondary lesions. She appears regularly as a symptom of various chronic skin diseases.

Common causes of lichenification are long lasting mechanical, chemical or inflammatory irritation of the skin, including in the context of chronic eczema. Typically it is among other things for atopic dermatitis. In dogs, a lichenification also be caused by hypothyroidism or a Sertoli cell tumor ( tumor of the Sertoli cells of the testis ).
