Geography

Lichtenberg is located with its hamlets in the valley of the Freiberger Mulde. In all places there is Waldhufen villages. The seven- kilometer district of Lichtenberg is located east of the river at the Gimmlitz. Weigmannsdorf and Müdisdorf are in a western tributary valley.

The highest point of the village is the castle hill with 617 m.

History

Lichtenberg 1309 is first mentioned as Lichtinberc. The foundation of the town by Frankish settlers but was already in the 12th century. In the 14th century moated castle of Lichtenberg was born. 1506 Lichtenberg was buying the Freiberger Council village. Only in 1838 was the place the self-government. In 1912 it was connected to the electricity network of Lichtenberg. The dam Lichtenberg was built from 1967 to 1973. On 1 October 1993, the incorporation of Weigmannsdorf - Müdisdorf was.
