Lichtensteig

Light trail is a city and a municipality in the canton of St. Gallen ( Switzerland ). It is located in the constituency of Toggenburg.

The municipality has a medieval old town ( «small city "). The oldest houses, which are also part of the city wall, dated to the first half of the 15th century.

1874, the villages of Hof, Loreto and Blatten of the community Oberhelfenschwil were transferred to light climbing.

The neighboring municipalities are Oberhelfenschwil, Bütschwil and Wattwil.

Community partnership

Since 1978 there is a community partnership between light gate and Adelberg in Baden- Württemberg, which was introduced in 1991 restored and strengthened. Volknand of Staufen from the family of the Toggenburg had founded on private property in Swabia in 1178, the monastery Adelberg.

UBS branch in light climbing, founded as Toggenburg Bank in 1863, is the origin of today's biggest bank in Switzerland.

Every year in August, the Jazz Festival, the largest jazz festival in eastern Switzerland, held in light trail. In September, the Swiss Photo flea market takes place.

Light trail on the main road 8 is the starting point of the Wasserfluhpasses. The main road 16 turn leads through light gate to Wil and wild house. A bypass road, classified as a highway, relieving the city from transit traffic.
