Licia Albanese

Licia Albanese ( born July 22, 1913 in Bari) is an Italian opera singer (soprano) and founder of the Licia Albanese - Puccini Foundation.

Life

In 1934 Licia Albanese made ​​her debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Madama Butterfly, an opera by Giacomo Puccini. Before she went to America, they enjoyed great success in Italy, France and England. Since 1940 she has been a regular guest at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City and in 1945 it took the U.S. citizenship. She gained fame in the recordings with Beniamino Gigli and Arturo Toscanini. In 1975, Albanese founded the Licia Albanese - Puccini Foundation to promote young artists and singers.
