Licodia Eubea

Licodia Euboea is a city in the Province of Catania in the Italian region Sicily, with 3009 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Licodia Euboea lies 68 km southwest of Catania. The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture and animal husbandry.

The neighboring municipalities are Caltagirone, Chiaramonte Gulfi (RG), Giarratana (RG), Gram Michele, Mazzarrone, Mineo, Monterosso Almo (RG) and Vizzini.

History

Already in 650 BC there was a place here. In the 12th century the castle was built, the community developed around the castle. In 1693 the town was badly damaged by an earthquake. Licodia Euboea was built in the same place again.
