Licques
Licques is a commune with 1574 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Pas -de- Calais, in the Nord -Pas -de- Calais; it belongs to the district of the canton of Calais and Guines.
Geography
Licques is located about 19 km south-southeast of Calais at the maturity of the Hem, a small tributary of the Aa. The place is located in the territory of the Regional Natural Park of Caps et Marais d' Opale.
History
The town can trace its roots to the Middle Ages: The Premonstratensian abbey of Licques is founded in the 12th century and was not lifted until the French Revolution. The Donjon of Licques is only preserved as ruins.
