Liebenau ( Low German: Lebenogge ) is a small town in the district of Kassel in northern Hesse ( Germany ).

Geography

Geographical Location

Liebenau located on the northern border of North Rhine -Westphalia almost in the extreme north of the district of Kassel on the southeastern edge of the Warburg flare. It is located about 25 km ( straight line ) northwest of Kassel between Warburg in the west and in the east Hofgeismar.

Liebenau is traversed in approximately west-east direction from the Diemel, in the above the village of Eggel ( from the north), in the Liebenau Vombach opens ( and north ) and below it the heat (from the south ).

Every few kilometers away are located northeast of Liebenau the Solling, east of the Reinhard Forest, south of Hawk Forest and northwest the Eggegebirge that are framed by the Reinhard Forest Nature Park.

Liebenau bordered to the north by the town of Trendelburg, on the east by the city Hofgeismar, in the southeast on the town Grebestein, to the south by the municipalities Calden and Breuna (all in the district of Kassel), and in the west and northwest by the towns of Warburg and Borgentreich ( both in the circle in Hoexter North Rhine -Westphalia).

The city is adjacent to the main town Liebenau ( 687 inhabitants) of the districts Bergersen ( 357 inhabitants), Grimelsheim (60 inhabitants), Haueda (372 inhabitants), Lamerden ( 426 inhabitants), Lower Meiser (760 inhabitants), Ostheim ( 387 inhabitants) and dwarves ( 373 inhabitants).

History

In quarries near Lamerden and Haueda the largest fossil locality is located in North Hesse. Among other things, the remains of Nothosauriern and fossil crinoids have been found here in the limestone. Owner of this reference is the Natural History Museum Kassel, which conducts excavations there regularly.

The Warburg flare with its gentle hills and fertile lowlands is an ancient settlement area. Numerous archaeological finds indicate a continuous settlement since the Neolithic period. On 1 February 1971, the formerly independent communities Grimelsheim, Haueda, Lamerden and Ostheim were incorporated into the city Liebenau. On April 1, 1972 Bergersen and low Meiser were added. Dwarfs followed on August 1, 1972.
