Liebenswiller

Liebenswiller ( German loving Weiler, alsatian Liebedswiller ) is a commune of 200 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district Mulhouse, on the Canton Huningue and community association Porte du Sundgau.

Geography

The community Liebenswiller Leimental is located on the Swiss border, about twelve kilometers south-west of the Basel city center.

Neighboring communities of Liebenswiller are Hagenthal -le-Haut in the north, Leymen in the east, Roder village ( Switzerland ) in the south, the west and Oltingue Bettlach in the northwest.

History

Early mentions there from the years 829 as Theotberlouuilare, 1232 Dieprechtswilr 1341 as Diepretzwiller, 1489 as Diepretzwilr 1567 as Liebentzweiler and 1576 under the present name. Between Leymen and Liebenswiller is a Gallo-Roman settlement, consisting of a farm and have a villa there. During the First French Republic officers were stationed in the village, who had to block the path between the monastery of Maria Stein and the Sundgau. 1823 the village school was established. At the end of the 19th century lived in Liebenswiller 45 families and 187 inhabitants, all of whom were Catholic. Since 1912, the community draws power from Switzerland, from the Elektra Birseck. 1913, the water pipes were laid. Today the village has nearly 200 residents.
