Liebig's Extract of Meat Company

Liebig's Extract of Meat Company ( LEMCO ) was a British company, the stock cube from the researched by Justus von Liebig meat extract, developed in the 1880s and marketed.

History

The company was founded in London and had its principal place of operation in Fray Bentos, Uruguay and New Heusis in South West Africa (now Namibia) where there were large cattle ranches later. On New Heusis is the Liebig-Haus today.

The company was also known by the collecting images called Liebigbilder. The products of Liebig's Extract of Meat Company achieved high popularity because eating meat for a broad segment of the population was a luxury. The upper classes bought Liebig's meat extract. The company supplied the court of Vienna and became the imperial Appointed purveyor to the court.

In 1964, Liebig's and founded by Arthur Brook in Manchester 1869 worldwide Teekonzern Brook Bond & Company combined for Brook Bond Liebig Co.. This was taken over by Unilever later. Successor company is oxo.

The former factory in Fray Bentos is now a museum to the company.
