Liebigs Annalen

Justus Liebigs Annalen der Chemie, mostly just as Liebigs Annalen ( acronym in older quotations: Ann or Liebigs Ann, since 1979 in quotes: .. . Liebigs Ann Chem ), called was, worldwide one of the leading journals in the field of chemistry.

History

The renowned scientist Justus von Liebig, Philipp Lorenz Geiger and Rudolph Brandes founded in 1832 to encourage the exchange of recent findings in the journal Annals of Pharmacy. The pharmacist Geiger possessed since 1824 already had relevant experience with his publisher " magazine for Pharmacie and then impacting science." The first magazine therefore contained as inserts

  • Magazine for Pharmacie and experimental criticism ( 1832-1850, Edit. Geiger PL )
  • Archives of pharmacists association in northern Teutschland ( 1832-1834, Edit. R. Brandes )

After a short time the insignificant association archive of fire has been replaced by

  • New Journal of Pharmacy for physicians, pharmacists and chemist ( 1834-1850, Edit. JB Trommsdorff )

In Volume 11 of 1834 was once every three supplements contain different fire then emerges from the editors, the pharmacist Trommsdorff took over the editing of the new leaflet. 1836 died unexpectedly at a young age, the pharmacist Geiger, until 1838 it was replaced by his friend Emanuel Merck in the editorial Liebig. 1837 also died of pharmacists Trommsdorff.

1838 Liebig could occupy its new editorial team for several years by two foreign chemist Dumas and Graham, as well as a close friend chemist Friedrich Wöhler, in 1840 was named the journal Annalen der Chemie and Pharmacie.

Ten years later, the pharmaceutical side dishes were spun for the magazine an additional number (" New Series " ) was introduced, but could find no acceptance until number 95. 1868 included " Mr. Liebig and Wohler " in the presentation of competing Journal of the American Chemical Society to honor the members of that society.

After the death of Liebig in 1873 him "his" journal was in honor renamed " Justus Liebig's Annalen der Chemie and Pharmacie ," a year later reduced to " Justus Liebig's Annalen der Chemie ". This name was more than a century of extraordinarily high quality of German-language publications, especially in organic chemistry.

In 1997, the magazine was first with the Dutch Recueil des Travaux Chimiques the Pays -Bas ( first publication: 1882) merged to form Liebigs Annalen / Recueil and 1998 with other European national journals of organic chemistry for European Journal of Organic Chemistry.
