Content and Characters

The eponymous main character Robert Liebling ( born June 12, 1939) is a lawyer and notary, who has his office in Berlin's Kreuzberg district. He's wearing in the first four seasons a three-day beard, wearing a slouch hat, moves only motorcycle ( a Honda first, then a BMW) and convertibles ( Season 4, a Mercedes -Benz 124 series, Season 5 a Mercedes -Benz W 111 ) smokes, cigar and consumed in large quantities jello that (played by Corinna Genest ) him his secretary Paula and Senta (Anja Franke ) always have to keep in stock. Sometimes favorite has several girlfriends at the same time, which often leads to trouble. While he himself takes such things pretty loose, it reacts with jealousy when one of his liaisons moved into the vicinity of infidelity.

Favorite accepts in principle only cases that interest him. In the first episode of season 1, he explains that he has sold an inherited from his father, real estate business and now documented in his capacity as a notary any resulting sales contracts. This secures him a degree of financial independence so that he can afford to bypass work possible. He would much prefer to go during the day on the river Spree walking or sleeping in his office. From the still handle the work delegated as much as possible to his favorite Sozii. In the first three seasons of this Michael Kausch is in the role of Dr. Giselmund Arnold, later Jenny Gröllmann as Isolde Isenthal " Issi " and finally Stefan Reck as Dr. Bruno Pelzer. They are mostly idealistic, at the same time conventional and thus created as antagonists of the pragmatic, but idiosyncratic favorite. Not least for this contrast resulted in a large part of the dialogue wit this series. The contradiction, however, is often only apparent, because favorite - although cynics - has even idealistic traits.

The episodes usually treat minor disputes that often confront the layman with unexpected legal offenses. In parallel plotline favorite girlfriends are a supporting theme. In the early episodes relations change most rapidly, while in later episodes, the voltage by the professional or personal background of women arises. In the 2nd and 3rd season, this is the prosecutor Rosemarie Monk (played by Diana grains) in the 4th season Lena Lewandowsky ( Isa Jank ), in season 5 a long time, the granary married Lola ( Monika Woytowicz ) and final Miriam Breslauer ( Johanna Liebeneiner ). Another important role in the private setting action takes his chaotic and chronically scarce monetary favorite daughter Sarah ( Roswitha Schreiner ), which in the final season - initially in secret - the girlfriend of favorite partner Dr. Bruno Pelzer is.

Historical Background

Liebling Kreuzberg is not least a contemporary document of the divided city of Berlin, and later reunited. In seasons 1-3 ( 1985-1989 ), the Berlin Wall is not really addressed, but often the screen background present. In addition, is discussed from time to time the four-power status in Berlin on the sidelines. In the Season 4 (1994 ), whose screenplays by Ulrich Plenzdorf were written, is the scene of the action in the eastern part of Berlin, in particular in the districts of Berlin-Mitte ( movie Registry on Monbijouplatz 12, and the house no longer exists) and Prenzlauer Berg moved, which also changes in the subjects of legal cases. In the Season 5 (1997, film firm Bevern street corner Kopenickerstrasse ) finally, the city appears as a topic increasingly into the background and thus reflects resist, as the characteristics that shaped the divided city of Berlin, are increasingly disappearing. In this respect Liebling Kreuzberg has a similar meaning as the comparable design and production effort Series Monaco Franze and Kir Royal by Helmut Dietl for Munich as a document of everyday life in Berlin and contemporary history.
