Liechtensteiner Vaterland

The Liechtenstein fatherland is the younger and larger of the two daily newspapers in Liechtenstein. Is the official journal of the Patriotic Union party, was in course of time, more and more independent. This trend can also be seen in the biggest rival newspaper in Liechtenstein, the Liechtenstein people sheet.

The Fatherland, as the newspaper is popularly called short, currently has about 50 employees and is headquartered in the Liechtenstein capital Vaduz.

The newspapers in Liechtenstein are known in the population for their readers' letters. Many readers have expressed their displeasure, their fears, or joy and so inform their fellow citizens about various topics. In a vote in 2003 for constitutional initiative even several pages of letters to the editor were published by the strong emotional bond of the population, since the question had divided the population on the one hand and on the other hand, the fatherland reproduces them all worthy readers' letters.

The Fatherland is placed in German language and mainly deals with current issues from the region Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Austria. The normal edition is about 10,000 copies ( Range: 19,000 ), the large print run of 18,500 copies ( Range: 24,000 ). The Liechtenstein fatherland is thus related to the number of inhabitants, the highest reach of newspaper in the world, ahead of Austria's Kronen Zeitung.

History

Beginning of the 30s there were in Liechtenstein two parties, the Catholic- conservative Civic Democratic Party and the liberal and Christian- social -minded People's Party. Both parties gave each published a newspaper, but had no daily output. In 1933, a new political group occurred, identified herself as a movement Liechtenstein home service. This group published a weekly newspaper as their organ.

In December 1935 the Patriotic Union was formed as a merger of Liechtenstein home service and the People's Party. As a result of this association, the two newspapers of these groups, the Liechtenstein- home service and Liechtenstein messages that have been set and started the publication of the newspaper Liechtenstein fatherland on 1 January 1936.

The line of the new paper, Dr Otto Schadler, the editor Dr. Alois Vogt. First edition was published on Wednesday and Saturday in an edition of 1500 pieces. The newspaper was distributed throughout the Principality of Liechtenstein, but also in adjacent parts of Austria and Switzerland.
