Lieg

Lie is a municipality in the district Cochem-Zell, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Treis- carding.

Geography

The village is situated on a ridge between the valleys of Lützbachs and the small brook on the northern edge of the Hunsrück, about eight kilometers from the Mosel. Through the village passes the highway 108 connecting the Mosel ( Treis- carding ) with the Vorderhunsrück ( Kastellaun ).

History

The environment of sun has been inhabited since the Neolithic period, as finds of stone axes show. More Observations ( burial mounds ) from the Iron Age ( 750-50 BC) testify further colonization, presumably by the Celtic tribe of Treverians. Approximately 50 before Christ, the Romans conquered the area. Also from this period show findings indicate a continuous settlement. A document from 1106 mentions the kidnapping of a young nun by Knight Embrico from Mayschoß on the Ahr to marry her. Then the parents disinherited her daughter, who was allowed to keep only the court in Lie. Later Lie belonged to the so-called dreiherrischen Beltheimer court. Since 1366 to the Electorate of Trier, Sponheim and brown horn - Winneburg shared the rule. With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops ended this. 1815 it to the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia.
