Lieps

The presumed site of the Slavic sanctuary Rethra; One of the most important bird sanctuaries in the inland

The Lieps is a lake in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern, Germany. The name of the lake comes from the Slavic " Lipa " ( "Linde" ).

Geography

The Lieps part of the territory of the city of Neubrandenburg, located a few hundred meters south of the Tollense. With this lake it is connected ( for example, " age gap" ) in the north via channels. The Lieps, which is mainly fed by Zieme Bach and the calibration Seebach ( Zippelower Bach) is three kilometers long and 2.5 kilometers wide. The average water depth is 2.3 meters. Your catchment area is 82.6 km ² and is predominantly agricultural. The Lieps is part of the nature reserve Nonnenhof.

General

On the banks of Lieps is the hunting Prillwitz, from which one can overlook the Nonnenhof peninsula with the Bacher Wall and the islands of hemp and Kietzmann Werder. In the area of Tollensee and Lieps Slavic central sanctuary Rethra been used for centuries suspected and searched without a proof would be far succeeded. By damming the water level in the 13th century by about 1.5 meters for the operation of Vierrademühle are numerous Slavic culture remains today below the waterline. The island Bins Werder is now completely flooded. For underwater excavations in the Lieps, as well as in studies on the islands and the castle ramparts on the peninsula Nonnenhof a permanent settlement could be detected since the 7th century. In spätslawischer time here an early urban settlement center was developed by outstanding historical dimension. The most important finding from the Tollensee - Lieps area is a double-headed Slavic wooden idol, which was excavated in 1969 on Fisherman's Island, Tollensee. Many Slavic finds from this area can be seen in the Regional Museum Neubrandenburg today.

Chemical and trophic characteristics

The Lieps is a polymictic shallow lake. The average pH value of 8.8, it has as a weak alkaline. According to the Water Quality Report 1993 ( LAUN MV and MV StAUN 1993) were all year high oxygen concentrations to the bottom. As a characteristic of their high calcium carbonate concentration of about 1 g / l is specified for the Lieps, which muthaßlich the high phosphorus inputs would elemeniert. The total phosphorus concentration was only 80 g / l, in the summer months, however, locally and also close to the surface to 118 ug / L. The total nitrogen concentration was 1.5 mg / L. These parameters reported from the lake as eutrophic. For the following years until 2001, a change in trophic level was registered to high polytroph. This change was accompanied by an increase in chlorophyll a concentrations up to 107 ug / l ( 1998), the temporary increase in the phosphorus concentration to 180μg / l ( 59 - 180μg / l) and the decrease of the Calciumcarbonatgehaltes to about half its initial value of 1993.

During the summer months of 1998 algae specialists of the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB ), the subtropical and tropical blue-green algae Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii, Anabaenopsis issatschenkoi demonstrated elenkinii and Aphanizomenon in the Lieps for a first proof in 1990 again. The Lieps is the northernmost previously known locality of the species Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii.
