Lierna

Lierna is a village on Lake Como in Lombardy, Italy. Lierna has 2162 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) at 11 km ². The village consists of 11 districts Lierna. Lierna extends from the lakeshore to the Grigna massif. Because of its mild climate, it is very popular with tourists. In Lierna also wine production. Worth visiting is the medieval castle Castello, which lies on a small peninsula. Lierna has two beaches: the Riva Nera ( black shore ) and the Riva Bianca (white shore ).

History

Lierna was probably founded by the Celts. For the Romans it was a holiday. You put in Lierna also get their winter camps. In the district of Villa Roman houses, articles and a floor mosaic dating from the 1st century have been found. The districts that are scattered on the slopes still have a typical medieval structure: narrow streets and tightly growing houses. Worth visiting is the medieval castle Castello, which lies on a small peninsula. It is now privately owned and is equipped with parks and orchards and is surrounded by high walls. Previously it was considered safe fortress against enemies.
