Name

Most linguists believe that the stream name with the name of Lithuania ( Lithuanian: Lietuva ) is related to and perhaps derived from it ( from the Lithuanian verb lieti the root from the Proto-Indo- European * leyǝ ).

Since many names are derived in the Indo-European languages from Hydronymen, the scientists searched for and waters that are related to the name of Lithuania. Kazys Kuzavinis Lietauka Lietauka identified as possible candidates and popularized the hypothesis. The original name of Lietauka may be associated with rainfall, appointed by displaced from the Russian Empire, Old Believers, who lived on the banks of the river. Litavka was converted by local Lithuanians phonetically to the Lithuanian Lietauka.
